Quartet for the end of time

Het Collectief & Anouk De Clercq

video, BE, 2022, 45’

Music and images for the end of time.

Few works of art have a genesis as poignant as that of Quatuor pour la fin du temps. Olivier Messiaen wrote his musical end of days in 1941, in a prisoner of war camp in Poland. Inspired by the Biblical Apocalypse and the horrors of the present day, this devout Catholic didn’t create work about hope or despair, but instead a work filled with colours and harmonies, in a unique rhythmic language that manipulates the perception of time. Anouk De Clercq captures those timeless musical visions in poetic video images that pick up where the music leaves off.
