Moving Image Atelier (MIA): On Distribution

Elephy hosts a Moving Image Atelier (MIA) on distribution in the framework of Herman Asselbergh’s Time Wasted exhibition.

On MIA
In 2019, elephy devised MIA as a series of workshops for artists, filmmakers and other art workers working alone or with small crews in the undefined territory between cinema and visual arts. With the aim to strengthen artistic control and enable technical decision making throughout the creative process, MIA workshops have examined the technical dimensions of moving image, sound, and post-production. Invited guest speakers have included artists such as Noski Deville, Luke Fowler, Mona Hendayati, Margaret Salmon, Alex Reynolds, to name but a few.

On Distribution
For this upcoming MIA edition, elephy invites an array of moving image arts workers to speak about distribution and promotion from varying perspectives. From producers who consider a film’s audiences whilst in the making, to programmers, who select films when evolved. Speakers of the day include: Laurence Alary (head of distribution at argos), Pauline David (director of Festival En Ville!), Alice Lemaire (producer at Michigan Films), Turab Shah (filmmaker and co-founder of Other Cinemas), Laura Staab (writer and editor at MUBI).

Timeline
At 10am we start with panel presentations, following with breakout groups for people to discuss in intimate round circles their distribution hurdles, ambitions, queries, and gain from collective insights. The findings of each table will be shared back into the group in a collective recap before breaking for lunch.
Vegan lunch for all, included in the price of the workshop.
In the afternoon, we have a presentation on pitching synopses and a workshop on refining film taglines by Laura Staab from MUBI. In the registration form, you are welcome to submit a tagline for review. In a collective learning session, Staab gives tips and tricks for improving the taglines submitted.
We continue with a ‘distribution clinic’ – a hands on distribution work session for artists looking to circulate their films in a supportive context and with the insights of peers and members of elephy, argos, and Auguste Orts
Closing at 5pm: mingling time, the bar at argos will be open.

Sign up here before Monday 27 May and pay a registration fee of 12 euros to secure your seat. Limited spaces available. First come, first serve policy with payment executed.

This event will be held in English
