L'histoire est simple et édifiante

Sven Augustijnen

selection of articles published in Paris-Match, first part (1960-1972), 2014

L’histoire est simple et édifiante is an installation that came about during the research for a film in development, Fierté Nationale, whose title is an allusion to Fabrique Nationale de Herstal, the Belgian weapons factory famous for its light automatic riffle, the F.A.L. During the Cold War the most distributed weapon in non communist countries, and therefore named the “right arm of the free world”, it was depicted in the various conflicts around the world as reported by the famous Paris Match’ journalists. Beside the paradox that the riffle appeared on both sides of the ideological spectrum, the proposed composition of Paris Match articles evokes how both weapons and journalism have been entangled in the fabric of history, and proposes the transformation of information into a sculpture that could also seem a storyboard.

L'histoire est simple et édifiante has been on display at the following locations:

Witte de With Rotterdam, (NL) Sep 10 2015–Jan 3 2016 Kunsthaus Zurich, (CH) Jun 12–Sep 6 2015 Jan Mot Brussel, (BE) Dec 4 2014–Jan 17 2015
